There are several winter fun activities that continue in Indiana despite the end of the holidays. These activities are great if you are looking for something different to do and to reduce that cabin fever you have or if you are taking a trip up to Indiana for a family vacation.

Kick off the month of love with the Chocolate Fest at the Bloomington Convention Center. Chocolate Fest is an all you can eat chocolate extravaganza. Vendors are local, regional and national as well as specialty food vendors. You are also able to try out different wines, beers and coffee with your chocolate treats. There are children’s areas, live entertainment and activities for individuals, couples and families. You won’t want to skip the silent auction for dinner packages, gift certificates, and Colts football gifts. This is annual chocolate event.

Once you are loaded up on chocolate, head to Rockville for the Parke County Maple Syrup Fair. You will get to try Golden Maple Syrup on fluffy pancakes as well as visit the maple syrup producers at their camps with a free map from the fairground headquarters. The routes take you through covered bridges throughout the county as well as other historical sights and places. There will also be several maple syrup displays, arts and crafts, home baked goods, jams, jellies, as well as maple syrup products. Camps include the sugar camps of Foxworthy, Williams & Teague, Smiley’s Camp, Sweetwater Farms and Baird’s Sugar Shack.

Northern Indiana is Amish Country. Driving the Heritage Trail is one of the best ways to observe the rural landscapes and life along the 90 mile trail. This is easily a one-day route where you can explore the area where some 20,000 Amish live. You can borrow an audio CD from the Elkhart County Visitors Center in Elkhart as well as several other stops along the trail. Stay warm in your car and enjoy the rich history of Amish country.
