When Nevada Magazine asked the state's golf pros to rate their favorite nevada and Tahoe area courses recently, responses came from 40 club pros and mangers, including 24 from the Las Vegas area, 12 from the Reno area, two from Tahoe, and two from rural Nevada.

  • Edgewood Tahoe - Lake Tahoe, South (775)588-3566
    One of Golf Digest's top 25 public golf courses in the U.S., Edgewood borders Lake Tahoe near the Stateline hotel casino area. Annually hosts the American Century Celebrity Golf Championship.   • Reflection Bay Golf Club - Lake Las Vegas - Southern Nevada (702)740-4653
    Reflection Bay, the first daily fee Jack Nicklaus course in the state, is located 17 miles east of the strip at Lake Las Vegas. In 2002 the course was ranked 28th best golf resort by Golf Digest and one of that magazine's top daily fee courses.   • The Golf Club at Genoa Lakes - Carson Valley (775)782-4653
    Designed by John Harbottle and PGA player Peter Jacobsen, this long, undulating layout at the base of the Sierra is the annual site for the local U.S. Open qualifying. Golf Digest named it the fourth "Best New Public Course" in the U.S. in 1994. Named Best Rural Nevada Course in 2001 Nevada Magazine reader's poll. Resort course, 18 holes, green fees include cart.

  • Shadow Creek - North Las Vegas (702)791-7111
    Owned by MGM-Mirage, this semi private course has what amounts to the highest green fee in the state. In 1997 Shadow Creek was ranked the 15th best course in the U.S. by Golf Digest. Semi Private, 18 holes, discounts from several area casinos, fees include limo transportation to and from the course, cart & caddy service. 7,239 yards * par 72

  • Tournament Players Club at Summerlin - Las Vegas (702)256-0111
    TPC stadium course built to accommodate spectators hosts the Invensys Classic at Las Vegas. Named by Golf Digest one of the top 10 golf courses in Nevada. Private, 18 holes. 7,243 yards * par 72

  • Montreux Golf and Country Club - Reno (775)849-9496
    Jack Nicklaus designed this forested course, which hosts the Reno/Tahoe Open. Ranked #2 in Nevada by Golf Digest, Montreux is the second longest course in the state and home course to PGA touring pro Scott McCarron. Private Course. 7,577 yards * par 72

  • Southern Highlands Golf Club - Las Vegas (702)263-1000
    When this course opened in 2000, one of the first guests to to play it was President Bill Clinton. Private Club, 18 holes. 7,240 yards * par 72

  • SouthShore Golf Club - Lake Las Vegas (702)558-0022
    Designed by Jack Nicklaus, SouthShore was host of the Wendy's 3-Tour Challenge in 1996, 1997 and 2001, course records have been set by PGA tour stars: Kirk Triplett shot 62 from black tees, and Tom Watson shot 61 from blue tees. Private, 18 holes. 6,917 yards * par 71

  • Las Vegas Country Club - Las Vegas
    Private course is a former co-host of the PGA's Las Vegas Invitational. Gently rolling large greens, well bunkered. Private, 18 holes. 7,164 yards * par 72

    Three Pete Dye courses are located on the Las Vegas Paiute Indian Reservation, 20 miles north of Las Vegas.

      Angel Park, which has two championship courses, an executive course, and a night lighted driving range, has been voted favorite golf course by locals six of the last seven years.       ArrowCreek has two private courses at 5,300 feet in Southwest Reno below Mount Rose. Outside golf events can be booked Monday-Thursday at the Legend.       Two members of the Jones family designed these courses, Robert Trent Jones created the Incline Championship Course while his son Robert Trent Jones Jr. laid out the Mountain Course.

      Designed by Robert Trent Jones, Lake Ridge has large greens with numerous bunkers. The famous 15th hole has an island green that must be reached with a tee shot from a hillside 120 feet above the lake. The Ridge Restaurant is nearby.
