GOLF COURSES IN KANSAS
Wellington Golf Club is one of the top destinations for outings and
tournaments in the Wichita area. Tournament and outing organizers
know that just booking an outing at Wellington means excellent value
and service. Wellington can handle outings from 20-144 players. Tournaments
range from ‘scramble' charity events to serious championships
for better players. They also host corporate golf outings.
When PGA Tour star Charles Howell, III was a junior golfer in Augusta,
Georgia, he took lessons from Gayla Davison. During her career in
golf, she has taught in Kansas City, KS (Brookridge Country Club),
Augusta, Georgia (Westlake Country Club), Palm Springs, California
(Rancho Mirage Country Club) and Wellington Golf Club. Gayla takes
into consideration the individual's personal ability, physical attributes,
and personality.
St. Andrews is an 18-hole course that is well-balanced and challenging
for both beginners and scratch golfers. The front and back nines have
distinctive characteristics. The front nine features wide fairways
with water coming into play on five of nine holes. The back nine is
more challenging with several doglegs, well-placed bunkers and tight
fairways. In 2005, St. Andrews was closed for a $1.5 million greens
reconstruction project. During the redesign of the greens, modern
technology similar to area country clubs was used. The old circular
greens have all been redesigned. Subtle contours and elevation changes
in each green will give golfers a fresh new look at the course every
time they play. In Jerry Heaster's book Guide to Kansas City Golf,
he says that St. Andrews Hole No. 11 is "one of the most underrated
golf holes in the Kansas City area."
In May 2007, the City Council approved a plan to construct the fields,
the city will spend $3.6 million to reconstruct 6 holes at St. Andrews
to retain the 18-hole layout. St. Andrews will stay open during construction,
which is now underway. Once completed, the new holes will add to the
attractiveness of the award-winning course.
One of the most popular and best maintained courses in the area,
OP Golf Club has 27 regulation golf holes, configured as three 18-hole
courses, South, North and West, along with a challenging 9-hole Par-3.
Golfers of all skill levels will enjoy this course with its rolling
fairways, panoramic views and large bentgrass greens.
Terradyne Resort Hotel & Country Club. A Scottish links-style
