Neighborhood Museum - National Treasure The Museum's 16 galleries provide an intimate setting to enjoy a unique and enriching collection of American fine and decorative arts made or used in Delaware and the Mid-Atlantic region. Also housed within the Museum is the Changing Exhibitions Gallery featuring three to four original exhibitions annually as well as the Programs Gallery for lectures, entertainments, lively receptions, Saturday Biggs Kids programs, and facilities usage. Special features of the permanent collections include the only comprehensive representational American paintings collection on the peninsula with highlights by the Peale family, Gilbert Stuart, Thomas Cole, Albert Bierstadt, and Childe Hassam, sculptures by the likes of Hiram Powers, as well as images by local talents like Brandywine School illustrator Frank E. Schoonover. In addition are examples of furniture by noted Early-American cabinetmakers like the Janviers of Odessa and William Savery of Philadelphia. Finally the Museum houses one of the best collections of the works of local silversmiths in the country and much, much more. M-Tu Closed, W-F 10-4, Sat 9-5, Su 1:30-4:30. Open State Holidays.
