Lake Harriet
We found this park on a Saturday let's get lost day.
Ended up in this very beautiful neighborhood with some very stylish
old homes. The Lake's shoreline has trails for bike riding and walking.
Bordering Lakewood Cemetery is Lyndale Park.
A scenic park, with a Rose garden, a Peace Garden
and a bird Sanctuary.
Hope you enjoy these pictures it was early spring so was not able to get
pictures of the Rose Garden.
Minnehaha Depot -
Milwaukee Road Station agents affectionately referred to this quaint little Minnehaha Depot
as "The Princess". It's delicate gingerbread architecture is reminiscent of the Victorian era when ladies in bustles and gentlemen in high collars traveled largely by train.
The first track connecting Minneapolis with Mendota was laid in 1865 by the Minnesota Central Railway, the
predecessor of the Chicago, Milwaukee and St. Paul Railway.
John Harrington Stevens
house was built in 1850 , this was the first house built on the west bank of the Mississippi, located at Saint Anthony Falls, near the present day Minneapolis Post Office.
John H. Stevens received permission to occupy the site, part of the Fort Snelling Military reservation in exchange for providing ferry services at Saint Anthony Falls. Steven's house and claim were originally known as the "Ferry Farm".
In the years 1850 to 1855 this house became the civic and social hub of the west bank settlement, earning the name
"The Birthplace of Minneapolis", It was in this house that both the city of Minneapolis and Hennepin County were
organized.
Minnehaha Falls
We have some pictures of the Falls and of the surrounding park.
This is a great place to take the family for a day of hiking and exploring.
The park is not really that large, and has a shaded picnic area with grills and tables.
The Minneapolis Parks Department has done a great job of maintaining this park.
